As some of you may know, I have lived with asthma throughout my entire life and have recently experienced a long extended period of time with extremely bad health due to the condition of my asthma earlier this year.
After completing the Full Marathon at Auckland 2018 in a time that well exceeded my expectations, I have again decided to enter in the Full Marathon for 2019 and fundraise money for the Asthma and Respiratory Foundation NZ at the same time.
One of my personal goals along the way will be me trying to get my own asthma under control while training for and racing in the Auckland Marathon event.
The Auckland Marathon is on Sunday the 20th of October 2019, and so I will be training throughout the winter with both rowing and running in preparation for this event.
I've created this page because I am wanting to make a difference. I'm inspired by the work of Asthma and Respiratory Foundation NZ and wanted to support them by raising money for the charity as part of my participation in the 2019 ASB Auckland Marathon.
I have been sent to hospital on a countless number of occasions with asthma and have always appreciated the quality of treatments provided to get me back on my feet. My hope is that this fundraising initiative may help to provide the treatments required for any future patient in need of such service.
What effect does asthma have on the body?
When you experience a trigger, the insides of your airways swell even more. This narrows the space for air to move in and out of the lungs. The muscles that wrap around your airways can also tighten, making breathing even harder. When that happens, it's called an asthma flare-up, asthma episode or asthma "attack".
Nearly 60% of asthmatics limit their physical activity because of asthma symptoms. I have decided to fight and keep myself in the 40% of asthmatics who refuse to let the condition change their lifestyle.
Hopefully this page can also help more people to know and understand the effects that Asthma can have on the body. So please spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family.
Please help me help them by giving what you can using the 'Give Now' button on my page.
Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!
